Yorkshire MD selected for prestigious training programme
January 30, 2017A Yorkshire managing director has been selected from hundreds of business leaders across the UK to take part in Goldman Sachs’ prestigious management training programme, which aims to help businesses reach their full potential.
Charles Corner, managing director of full-service sheet metalwork manufacturer, Fresh Metal, hopes the well-respected programme will help him achieve his ambitious growth plans to increase turnover by 25% in the next 12 months. This follows a successful year for the company, which recently reported a growth of 26% in 2015-16.
Following a rigorous selection process, Charles Corner has been chosen to take part in the global investment banking firm’s 10,000 Small Businesses Programme, a training scheme that aims to provide small business leaders with the skills and tools they need to effectively grow their businesses.
After initially being referred to participate in the programme by his bank manager at HSBC, Charles completed a series of in-depth entry activities before the programme leaders, including representatives from Goldman Sachs, the Goldman Sachs Foundation and a number of leading UK universities, offered him a place on the scheme.
Charles said: “To have been selected to take part in this programme is a real honour – it will provide a great opportunity for me to obtain invaluable knowledge from inspirational business experts, enabling me to push Fresh Metal forward and continue our ambitious plans for the future.
“As the course takes place during normal working hours, you’re given the chance to take a step back and focus solely on how to develop your business from a strategic perspective, something business owners don’t often have the option to do.
“There’s also potential for the scheme to open up other opportunities in the business world for both myself and Fresh Metal as a whole, which is another exciting prospect. We’ve already experienced an impressive growth rate for our last financial year and I’m confident that the Goldman Sachs training will give me the extra skills to ensure we meet our objective to increase turnover by a further 25% over the next year.”
The focus of the Goldman Sachs programme is a high-quality, practical business and management education, delivered over 100 hours through a combination of online training sessions and in-person lectures at four universities across the UK – Oxford University Business School, the Aston Centre for Growth at Aston University, Leeds University Business School at University of Leeds, and the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The course has been specifically designed by world-class international and national experts in entrepreneurial learning. To date, the 10,000 Small Businesses Programme has helped generate more than £2.1billion in revenue among 933 entrepreneurs since its launch in 2011.
Fresh Metal specialises in providing a full sheet metalwork service, from laser cutting and pressing to fabricating, powder coating and assembly.
